Bishnu Pariyar: a Dalit woman from rural Nepal who beat the odds to complete high school and now holds a Masters in International Development from Clark University. Since childhood she has fought against caste- and gender-based discrimination and poverty and founded Empower Dalit Women of Nepal (EDWON) in 1998. She remains the inspirational heart of the organization, which she leads with the help of a small Nepali staff and a voluntary organization based in Cambridge, MA. Her story illustrates the power of the girl effect and the meaning of turning oppression into opportunity.
Empower Dalit Women of Nepal (EDWON): works with rural Dalit women and girls who face obstacles related to caste, gender, and poverty. To learn more visit our website (http://www.edwon.org/)!
