Distributed System's Meetup - 31st July 2016

Details
Agenda :
• 10:45 AM - 11:30 AM : Ehcache 3 and Terracotta 5: better, faster and clustered caching
Ehcache, the de-facto caching library for java, has seen a major overhaul for its 2016 3.x release: modernised API, compatible with the javax.caching specification, out of the box offheap support, and open source Terracotta cluster support!
During this session, we will show how to leverage the features of Ehcache 3, understand the scale continuum that Ehcache promotes and learn how good caching integration allows for seamless scaling.
Scale up is achieved using the open source off heap support. Clustering with Terracotta will be the building ground for scale out.
Attendees will learn all they need to get going with the Open Source offering and will have insights into the upcoming enterprise features that will be released in the future.
Presented by :- Louis Jacomet
Louis Jacomet has been perfecting his knowledge of Java for more than 15 years. Always a developer at heart, his role evolved over the last years to include technical team leading, coaching and some management.
In addition to the bits and bytes, Louis is interested in people management skills mandatory to create a productive project team. To complete the buzzword bingo, Louis is interested in agile practices for the visibility, communication and result orientation it promotes.
He works remotely from Belgium for Terracotta, as the project lead for Ehcache 3.

• 12:40 PM - 01:25 PM : The Availability & Scale Conundrum for Distributed Databases
Theoretical boundaries, challenges and trade-offs in designing distributed systems, such as a scale-out NO-SQL data store or a scale-out cache, with respect to availability and scale.
Presented by :- Ramesh Kavanappillil
27 years in SW development most of it on distribution middleware, including state-full distributed systems. Was in the original team from HP that designed/developed Oracle’s DLM for Oracle RAC and commercial clustering and cloud computing products for HP and now working for Terracotta R&D. Areas of interest: Fault-tolerant Distribution middleware, Cloud Computing, Scalable Storage Systems & Functional Programming
• Snacks :- You can also use this occasion to meet and directly talk about your use cases with us and also get to know how you can become part of the open source ecosystem around it.
