A Sustainable Future: What's YOUR Role? Geothermal Beers Night on April 21st, 7-10pm.
David Milia, Chair of Corporate Sustainability (Haskayne School of Business), will be with us to speak about the “Great Debate” rages on – what role does/should oil and gas play in our future? What is the ‘energy’ discussion really about? And, what can you, as an individual, really do? After all, we are all consumers – and in that role – must inevitably play a part in the equation.
Join Mr. Milia, as he leads an interactive and provocative discussion around understanding the role of energy and the ‘energy mix’ in today’s global economy. Who are the players? Where does Canada fit into the picture? What about Alberta? What is the context and purpose of SRI -- “socially responsible investment”? Come explore the Why, How and What of some of the world’s most environmental, social and economic challenges. In doing so, we feel quite sure you will walk away with some solid insight on how YOU can make your own impact.
Mr. Milia has over 16 years of oil and gas experience within multiple disciplines. He began his career in surveying and exploration, transitioned to engineering procurement and construction management and progressed into project management. Mr. Milia’s career included time at EnCana, later Cenovus, handling their engineering procurement and construction management coordination, documentation controls, and GIS special projects. Mr. Milia also served as the Academic Chair for the BSc in construction project management at SAIT and sat on the Board of Directors for aceBIM.
Mr. Milia holds a dual undergraduate degree, a technical diploma and a dual MBA focused in global energy management and sustainability, and project management. He is also a Certified Engineering Technologist under ASET.
Info on Geothermal Beers Night:
Geothermal (or earth heat) energy is a clean, renewable source of both power and heat. It is proven technology that provides baseload (24 hours a day, 365 days a year) power, has low to no emissions and one of the smallest environmental footprints of any power supply. Geothermal can be a cost-effective and practical energy solution for an entire generation of Canadians.
So come and support this amazing industry! We are holding and informal event/opportunity to meet folks in the geothermal energy industry and those who want to see this industry take off! We are just going to the Pub to chat about geothermal energy and whatever other topic comes up.This is an opportunity to meet others interesting in developing this resource in Canada and share ideas.
Due to 'overwhelming response' Beers night is now a regular event (every 3rd Thursday of the month) and Fergus & Bix in Marda Loop has a great location to host our event.
