Kintsugi Beginners Workshop
Details
Food for thought: Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art form in which gold is used to repair broken ceramics. The practice of Kintsugi highlights the break rather than erasing it and emphasizes that the break, or "trauma", is what makes the ceramics more VALUABLE and TREASURED.
Japanese artist Mami Takahashi's workshop will focus on the healing process from trauma due to the pandemic through this art form. In this beginner's workshop, participants will learn the basic technique of Kintsugi on a small porcelain plate or a small ceramic plate to understand the fundamentals of this process.
All materials, including adhesives, in the workshop will be food-safe, as approved by the Japanese Government. We will also use an artificial Urushi (the natural resin collected from the lacquer tree) sap for this beginner's class, which is safe to touch without allergy reactions.
Price: $120 (materials included)
There are only 6 students per class!
Purchase your ticket for Thursday, November 2, here and note in the comments once you have done so. https://www.evanstonartcenter.org/.../kintsugi-beginners-0
Once we know who is joining, we can decide if we want to meet for coffee or lunch in Evanston prior to the class.
Notes:
Mami is also holding a class on October 30 from 6.30-8.30 pm. If you sign up for that and want others to join you, please comment.
