How to Make Hard Cider

Details

We'll walk you through how to make your own 5-gallon batch of hard cider. This is a surprisingly simple process that requires three ingredients: cider, honey and yeast. You'll also need a 5-gallon carboy, a drilled #6 rubber plug and an airlock. If you don't already have this equipment, I can get you them for $25. (You'll need to contact me at least one week before the event to ensure your equipment is ready for the class.)
I'll spend some time sharing what I've already learned about the brewing process, including practices that have contributed to spectacular batches as well as potential pitfalls that contributed to ruined batches. I'll also cover some basic theory on how the yeast interacts with the cider and honey ... as well as how temperature affects that interaction.
