Kayaking the upper Catawba River - Class 1++

Duke is running two Turbines at the Lake-James Catawba dam. This provides a more challenging run than what we usually do on the same river - but lots of fun! I would probably classify it as Whitewater Class 1++. Some open-cockpit rec kayaks may have trouble filling up with water, so a shorter sit-on-top, ducky, or whitewater kayak may be better. Some kayaking experience required.

GPS will take you straight to the put in 5645 Power House road in Morganton, NC. We will get out at Watermill road access. This trip is around 2.5 hours, 5 miles.

Bring a your kayak, paddle, life jacket, whistle, water shoes, sunscreen, water, bug spray. Please have a rope tied to your boat. Helmet recommended.
