Official Critique and Discussion Meeting
The purpose of the group will be to assist fellow writers with their immediate, short term writing goals. Whether you're a beginner poet or a published novelist, you are welcome to attend and share. All genres are welcome. Please plan on bringing a short piece to read aloud. If you don't have anything or are uncomfortable in the beginning, you are more than welcome to come and participate in the discussion. Generally, everyone arrives about 5-10 minutes early and signs in. We read in the order of sign-in; the moderator reads last. Latecomers get added to the end of the list. Depending on the number of people, writers read aloud and share their work for about 5-10 minutes, and the group then offers critiques and discusses the piece for 5-15 minutes. While not required, some writers prefer to bring copies of their work for people to follow along/make marks.

What we're about

Public Group

Welcome to 9 Bridges

Writing can be a solitary journey. There is no one right or wrong way to pursue your love of writing, and no two writers share the exact same experiences. The methodology that works for one person often doesn’t work for another. Writers are a little like stars in the sky – while there are countless numbers, each is completely unique and capable of creating their own world full of wonder.

9 Bridges creates connections – bridging differences in styles, personalities and level of experience. We feel we can all learn from one another, whether it means a poet might learn something new about cadence from a science fiction writer, or that a horror writer might coach a memoir writer about tension. We strive to not only connect writers to writers, but to give writers greater access to the communities that can help them the best.

We do this through offering positive, supportive critique groups that help people improve their writing skills without cutting them down. The format is simple - each member brings a sample of their current work in progress and reads it out loud to the group. Feedback is based on based on what is heard, and this provides a different experience than seeing things on paper.

We also have a vibrant online community through Facebook.

Finally, we partner with other organizations to bring discounts and/or free admissions to members for conferences, events and services.

Membership is free. We keep this organization up and running through the generous support of our members. Please consider assisting us - we are an Oregon-based 501(c)3 non-profit and your donation is tax-deductible.
