Downtown Saturday Critique Meeting
Hi Everyone, please join us for our weekly critique meeting. We are holding this every Saturday afternoon at First Christian Church. They have a great back room that can be closed off from everything and is nice and quiet! No more sound checks or pianos to deal with, so it's an ideal place for reading aloud. We are using a read-aloud format. If you wish to have your work critiqued, please bring a short piece or chapter (about 2-3 double-spaced pages) to read out loud to the group. It can be any genre, including non-fiction or poetry, but we do ask that the material be R as we are in a public place and don't put age restrictions on our writers. You don't have to read - you can show up to listen and critique or just listen. We don't have set time limits on critiques - all we ask is that you be mindful of how many readers are reading after you so that everyone gets a chance to read. We unfortunately have to pay a monthly fee for the space so we will pass a hat. There's no cost to come but if you can spare a couple of dollars it will go to paying for the space. Please RSVP so we have an accurate count so we know how many chairs to set up. Also please note: the building is locked so there will be someone at the Park Avenue entrance (the glass doors) between 1:30 - 2:00 to let you in. Don't be late! If you think you might be a bit late, please message Heather ahead of time so we can make arrangements.

What we're about

Welcome to 9 Bridges

Writing can be a solitary journey. There is no one right or wrong way to pursue your love of writing, and no two writers share the exact same experiences. The methodology that works for one person often doesn’t work for another. Writers are a little like stars in the sky – while there are countless numbers, each is completely unique and capable of creating their own world full of wonder.

9 Bridges creates connections – bridging differences in styles, personalities and level of experience. We feel we can all learn from one another, whether it means a poet might learn something new about cadence from a science fiction writer, or that a horror writer might coach a memoir writer about tension. We strive to not only connect writers to writers, but to give writers greater access to the communities that can help them the best.

We do this through offering positive, supportive activities that help writers improve their skills and focus so they can succeed.

Verbal Critique Groups:
The format is simple - each member brings a sample of their current work in progress and reads it out loud to the group. Feedback is based on based on what is heard, and this provides a different experience than seeing things on paper.

Write-Ins:
Write-ins are part group writing and part discussion. Bring your WIP and get some serious writing done within a group setting.

Specialized groups:
Whether you are working on a specific aspect of your writing or looking for a specific type of critique group, we have small focused groups for serious writers.

Finally, we partner with other organizations to bring discounts and/or free admissions to members for conferences, events and services.

Membership is free. We keep this organization up and running through the generous support of our members. Please consider assisting us - we are an Oregon-based 501(c)3 non-profit and your donation is tax-deductible.

Keep Writing!!!!!!!
