Lisa Feldman Barrett, PhD
Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Northeastern University and author of the book How Emotions Are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain
Lisa will present four myths about emotion to set the stage for understanding how emotions are made. Each myth about emotion will help illustrate one central lesson in her new book, How Emotions Are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain.
Lisa's research focuses on the nature of emotion from the perspectives of both psychology and neuroscience, and takes inspiration from anthropology, philosophy, and linguistics. She's a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Northeastern University and has appointments at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Psychiatry and Radiology. She received a National Institutes of Health Director's Pioneer Award for her groundbreaking research on emotion in the brain. Her book has been covered in The New Yorker, Wired, The Guardian, NBC News, and The Today Show.
