We will meet in the Lawrence Library Auditorium. Enter from the South entrance, the door is on your right after you enter.
What is this thing?
Come learn one-on-one from other developers as you're randomly assigned a new learning partner every 50 minutes! Take turns teaching your partner something you know well that they don't. What you and your partner discuss is up to you both!
Attendees should be both willing to learn and willing to teach someone else. We understand you may not think you know something, but don't kid yourself--you have at least something you can show off to someone else! Even your latest project and how you accomplished different things in it would be cool to see.
OK, I'm still interested, tell me more!
Bring your laptop, some ideas of what you'd be interested in learning more about, and your own knowledge, and let's teach each other something new! And dinner is on us!
Presentations are intriguing but you can probably learn more from sitting down with someone and letting them explain something to you while looking over their shoulder and asking questions. This event will allow you to do just that!
Every one of us knows something other developers don't. From code-specific things, to any facet of development: efficient ways for managing your development machine, how to work with a specific library, framework, database, language, etc. or maybe how to use GitHub, or even even something as simple as how you bills clients. Anything related to tech or development is on the table!
What to expect:
When you show up we'll have you write out 5 things (or more) that you know a thing or two about that you wouldn't mind teaching to another person. This list won't limit you in any way, it's just a starting point to give your partner a quick snapshot of what your strengths are. Each partner can pick one topic from the other's list (or discuss and come up with your own!) to learn from the other during that session.
We will run several 50-minute sessions where you will be RANDOMLY paired with another attendee (so there's no need for awkwardness.) You and your partner will exchange lists of strengths and decide what to talk about. Then however you and your partner decide to divide up the rest of the time and what to talk about is up to you--but you only have 50 minutes to collaborate!
After each session we'll gather and discuss as a group what different people talked about and what you learned.
What to bring:
Laptop Probably a good idea to have a working web server environment available Ideas on what you're curious about learning
What's provided:
FREE Pizza and soda/water for dinner, likely from Rudy's Pizza Wireless internet and power outlets will be available at the venue Chairs and tables
