The London School of T’ai Chi Chuan has been offering classes and supporting the teaching and study of T’ai Chi Chuan in London since 1979. Our school preserves the direct lineage and tradition of Professor Cheng Man-Ch’ing who brought Tai Chi out of China to the Western world. Our school presents his short form of tai chi in a modern and easy-to-learn method.

The distinguishing feature of the way we teach T’ai Chi classes in London is our team teaching method. Team teaching provides our students with a setting where the emphasis is on the clarity of the work, and makes our classes easy to follow. With two or more teachers working together in a single class, students always have one teacher with whom to follow the movements, while another teacher verbally guides the class and follows up on specific needs of the group.

Our traceable lineage has a direct connection with Professor Cheng Man-Ch’ing's most senior students, Patrick Watson, the founder of our School.

Professor Cheng Man-Ch’ing (1901-1975) is known as “The Master of the Five Excellences”, (painting, calligraphy, medicine, poetry and T'ai Chi Chuan). As a physician Professor Cheng cured the wife of the reputable T'ai Chi grandmaster Yang Ch'eng-fu of a severe illness. This developed into a close friendship between them. This enabled Prof Cheng to practice T'ai Chi for several years under the direct guidance of Yang Cheng Fu. Professor Cheng was profoundly impressed by the healing power of T'ai Chi and wanted to make it available to everyone.
