http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/5/9/7/6/event_123442902.jpegThe Local Group Astronomy Club http://www.lgscv.org will be viewing the historic Venus Transit with solar safe telescopes on June 5, 2012. Meetup members are encouraged to join us. This is a last of your lifetime event, since the next one will not occur until the year 2117.

Enjoyment of this event will be enhanced with the use of a telescope because of the magnicication. Venus is pretty small compared to the Sun. Ingress (the start) will occur at 3:06 pm-transit center will be at 6:26 pm . The transit will still be in progress at sunset around 8 pm.

The location selected is one of the best in Santa Clarita offering an elevated unobstructed view to the west. Ample parking will be available.

The location is in the Centre Pointe Development in the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita. From Golden Valley (aka Cross Valley Connector) turn on McKeon Dr., cross Carl Boyer Dr and you will see Walmart on the south and BabysRUs on the north. We will be on the BabysRUs side. Please note that the legal address is on Carl Boyer-but follow my directions.

This will be your last chance to view Venus as disk against the face of the Sun, as opposed to a morning or evening "star". The transit of 1761 was used to measure the size of our solar system and involved expeditions traveling around the world...you only have to make it to Canyon Country.

Remider.....June 5 is election day in California...... vote before you come out to play.
