The cost of a college tuition has risen disproportionately over the past several decades, and the average amount of student loan debt has doubled in the past 15 years.
[see: ]

While crippling debt is currently the most politically visible corruption of education in America, it is only the biggest wave in a sea of trouble. The fundamental problem is that our academic institutions are eager participants in a fundamentally coercive system. Schools are obsessed with judging every single thing a student does. Students have very little freedom in schools. Students have little to no choice over the curriculum, their schedules, or who their classmates will be. In this way America's existing educational institutions serve as initiation into a corrupt system, built on unequal chances. What we mean by “free”:
- without cost
- open, fluid
- no teachers, no students, no hierarchy
- sharing of our abundance

Our goals:
- Create a learning community that values emotions and intuition as much as critical thought.
- Objectivity! Detach from dominant cultural biases that have been created by centuries of patriarchal hierarchies.
- Exploring, building, creating.

"No one can build you the bridge on which you, and only you, must cross the river of life. There may be countless trails and bridges and champions who would gladly carry you across; but only at the price of losing your own self; your self would have to be mortgaged, and then lost. There is one road along which no one can go, except you... Do not ask where it leads; go forward.” - Friedrich Nietzsche
