Kirtan (devotional singing)

Details
A kirtan, also known as a mantra or bhajan, is a very simple song, often in call and response format, with only one verse that is repeated many times. The word Kirtan is also used for the collective practice of singing these songs together. These songs are often in Sanskrit, and the repetitive nature of the song means that they have a meditative effect.
They are a sacred sound formula that has a specific focus and energy with meaning in every syllable, often containing transformative healing energy.
When we come together to sing these songs the aim is to connect to our hearts and through the singing we also feel connected to each other. These songs can bring us into such a deep heart connection that we feel devotion: pure awareness, pure being, pure joy - our true nature.
The aim is not to sing well, but to sing with our whole hearts - to sing with devotion; to life, to love, to spirit - however you perceive that which is worthy of ultimate humility and surrender.
Lyrics will be provided but no song explanations - if you want to find out the meaning of the songs you can do so after the event.
