As an old Scots saying has it, ‘guid gear comes in sma’ bouk’ (good things come in small packages). And despite its small size, Scotland certainly has many treasures crammed into its compact territory. There’s something for all tastes.
I have always wanted to go to Scotland to explore this great country with “Brave hearts” people.
We plan to stay in the Scottish Highlands for 6 nights and 5 full days, exploring the area:
-
climbing Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK;
-
hiking in the Glen Coe Valley, which boasts some of the most majestic picture-postcard scenery to be seen in the Highlands;
-
visiting Eilean Donan Castle, the most photographed castle in the world. Certainly, Eilean Donan is Scotland's most romantic and recognizable;
-
Oban, Scotland's most popular west-coast holiday town and amazing destination for coastal hikes;
-
Isle of Skye, the worlds favourite island, recently voted '4th best island in the world by National Geographic magazine’ and movie film location of 'BLESSED', starring James Nesbitt.
This will be a combined holiday of hiking and sightseeing! All will be planned according to the weather to enjoy the most of it. We will choose the best weather day (OUT OF FULL 5 WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU WILL ENJOY THE FANTASTIC VIEWS) to climb Ben Nevis.
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Britain. The classic route (http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/bennevis.shtml#route-profile), so-called Tourist Route up the mountain. It is straightforward, if strenuous, by hillwalking standards, but the less experienced should read all the precautions.
TERRAIN
Steep path throughout. The upper section is rough and very stony; it is often snow-covered and losing the line of the path easily leads onto dangerous terrain - navigational skills are needed. NB. as with any mountain walk, any ascent when snow is lying on the path requires winter equipment and skills.
Distance 17km / 10.75 miles Time 7 - 9 hours Ascent 1352m Profile (http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/bennevis.shtml#route-profile)
HIKING
If we need we may split a group into two smaller groups every day so members can choose a hike according to their fitness and abilities!
Glen Coe & Loch Leven is a magical place where true Highland Hospitality combines with worlds famous scenery, poignant history and some of the best things to see and do Scotland has to offer. Here mountains and sparkling lochs combine to create the breathtaking uniqueness that is Glen Coe... Glen Coe is, without doubt, one of the most famous and scenic of all Scottish Glens.
The Island of Skye, situated off the West coast of Mainland Scotland, is the largest and best known of the Inner Hebrides.
We will hike to the Fairy Pools and Coire na Creiche, the walk (http://www.isleofskye.com/skye-guide/top-ten-skye-walks/fairy-pools) is a great chance to get you into the Cuillin scenery without the need for any scrambling or other difficulties. The first section follows a beautiful crystal clear stream full of lovely pools and waterfalls.
Oban, the Seafood Capital of Scotland, is also known as the Gateway to the Isles.
Well worth a visit while we are in Oban, especially if the weather is unkind, is the Oban Distillery, unusual in being located in the heart of such a busy town.
