Apr. 26-28 Cruising the Norfolk Broads

  • Apr 26, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

A boating break on the Norfolk Broads opens up a world of timeless beauty, where miles of connecting waterways offer cruising through reed marshes, meadows and woodland.Although all the waterways are interconnected and accessible one from the other, there are many departure points for the Norfolk Broads.

We will be departing from Wroxham.

With no locks, Norfolk Broads couldn't be easier. We will  be able to moor close to riverside pubs and restaurants, picturesque villages and market towns.

Some of Britain's rarest plants and wildlife thrive in this protected conservation area (a National Park in all but name), and on your Norfolk Broads holiday you can explore nature reserves and country parks, many with nature trails, bird watching hides, guided trips and special exhibitions.

Our Norfolk Broads hire boat puts you within easy reach of some of the country's finest coarse fishing, and regattas and boating events are a feature of life on the Norfolk Broads. Although you will not need to fish for your supper!

We have reserved two boats that will depart from Wroxham, which has its own mainline rail station with services from Liverpool Street Station so you can enjoy a relaxed journey on the Friday night.  The rail station is only a short walk to the location where the boats will be moored, which will be close to a local pub, by the time the majority of people arrive.

Details of the exact trains times and cost will be updated later.

From Wroxham we will have sufficient time to reach far a field as Yarmouth if we choose we can explore the other areas of the broads and even stop off for short walks if we decide. Final details will be provided closer to the date.

I have secured two boats at present and an additional boat could be added later if numbers require it. I intend to be largely male and female, but there might need be some mixing of sexes.

In order that we are not crowded I’ve selected the larger boats available with a capacity to accommodate 12 people. If you are in a couple you should be able to have your own private double berth cabin. Given the design of the boats there are a number of double berths which will require a few people of the same sex sharing a double berth. I suggest that everyone brings a sleeping bag for this reason.

First Boat features;

  • 4 singles & 4 doubles in 6 cabins & saloon.
  • Sliding canopy over saloon.
  • Partially covered forward double berth, some berths under-size.
  • 2 toilets 2 showers.

  • Colour TV, CD/Radio, Hair Dryer, Warm Air Heating, Electric Fridge, Cooker, Fully equipped galley.
  • Life Jackets for all the Crew.

Second & Third Boat features;

  • 4 singles & 3 doubles in 4 cabins & 1 saloon
  • 2 toilets 2 showers.
  • Split sliding canopy over saloon.
    level floor though-out and rear double doors.
  • Microwave, DVD, Colour TV, CD/Radio, Hair Dryer, Warm Air Heating, Electric Fridge, Cooker, Fully equipped galley.
  • Life Jackets for all the Crew.

Getting there by rail
At present the train times for April are not set in stone so I'm reluctant to display them, however these are the currently available time;

Dep - London Liverpool Street at 19:00 (one change)
Arr - Wroxham Station at 21:30.

Dep - Wroxham Street at 16:24 (one change)
Arr - London Liverpool Station at 19:24.

Rail Cost
The Off peak return fare is currently £49, but subject to confirmation and I would anticipate this to be considerably less with a Group Saver Ticket.  Earlier trains are available at a higher cost and Group Saver Discounts subject to some restrictions. I will however look into the best options available and advise as soon as the information is available.

Getting there by car
Exact details for parking in Wroxham will be provided closer to the time, however there is a £15 parking fee per car for the weekend.

  • Sleeping bag, additional bedding is available on board.
  • Personal towel
