The next decade will see a massive transformation of the data layer of the enterprise. The move to the cloud and the re-engineering of applications to micro-services are both creating demand for cloud-native, highly available/resilient databases that support geo-distributed data and meet rigorous security and compliance requirements.

So what will the new databases look like?

App Devs need distributed capability, consistency, scaling and high performance; they will favour 100% open source databases with a familiar Postgres syntax that are tightly integrated with modern tooling to enable rapid development of cloud-native apps.

Data Layer teams want to deploy that technology securely across any container, on-prem and in the cloud - with built-in resilience, high availability and effortless horizontal scaling.

Both of these have to be achieved at a significantly lower TCO, whilst avoiding cloud-vendor lock-in and easing cloud migrations along the way.

Come and see how Yugabyte can help you meet the challenges of this exciting new world.

About David:

David Walker, Field CTO, EMEA of Yugabyte is obsessed with data, and when he is not at work he is playing with his 20-node Raspberry Pi Cluster, or writing NodeRed graphs to manage his vinyl record collection - you’ll see his deck in the background of any Zoom call.

He considers himself lucky that his work so aligns with his interests and has been responsible for some impressively large systems including being the Enterprise Data Platforms Director at Worldpay with a team of 150, running Hadoop, Kafka and Machine Learning solutions for credit card payments - building the second PCI certified cluster in the world. In the Netherlands he led the architecture for the BVI programme at the Dutch National Police.

He describes joining Yugayte as getting in on the ground floor of the next stage in the development of cloud native, modern applications that will drive IT solutions for the next decade
