Workshop and Discussion Group

Alex: Type Traits in C

No details available.

Nathan: Unit-testing Concurrent C++

Concerning the implementation of a unit-testing framework module. The module's purpose is the passing of functions from a management thread to execution threads in order to test the safety of executing said functions concurrently.

Arthur: The Auto (OnScopeExit) Macro

Concerning an RAII construction used to execute some action at scope exit. Arthur is planning to present this topic at CppCon in September, and we're his willing guinea pigs.

If you're considering presenting, please add a comment or send me a message.

    I'd like to make a presentation (15 mins tops, I think), the subject being something like "Type Traits in C", provided I find time to write it up and make it to the meeting. :) I won't say more at the moment so as not to spoil it. :)

      True, my (gradually-over-the-years-acquired) chauvinism is showing. :) My only criteria for the "Right Way" were that it should force the compiler to evaluate it compile-time, it should not rely on the user to initialize TraitBE before the first use, and (in deference to the original version's portability) it should be portable to the most common 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

      Well, if general portability is not a concern, you might as well use __builtin_types_compatible_p() and be done with it. At least when that fails, it will do so at compile time... :)

    I'll try to have a lightning talk written up on the Auto() macro (a.k.a. OnScopeExit). This is one of the things I'll talk about at CppCon in September, so I need the motivation to start writing it up!

    I won't mind if we don't get to my talk at all; and contrariwise I could probably stretch it into an hour what with all the interesting tangents I could cover.

    What's the topic of discussion?

      I'll try my best to come up with something. If not next time maybe.
