NLP workshop part 2, Data Science Academy info

Please note: Cloud Native Wales have also moved their meetup to be on the same evening in February. We've discussed this with them and don't believe there is much of a clash with our audiences. Here's the link to that event:

Welcome back! This month we'll continue our workshop with the SpaCy exercises from November, introducing Topic Analysis (don't worry if you weren't there, we'll do a quick catchup).

We're also delighted to welcome representatives from Cardiff University to tell us about the Data Science Academy:

Title: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Cardiff University: Teaching and Research

Who: Dr Federico Cerutti and Dr Luis Espinosa-Anke

In this talk we will present the Data Science Academy (DSA) at Cardiff University, that starting in September 2019 will offer a suite of Masters degree programmes in:

(1) Artificial Intelligence
(2) Data Science and Analytics, and
(3) Cybersecurity

in close collaboration with industry to produce highly sought-after graduates who will be able to hit the ground running when they enter employment. The DSA will be based in dedicated, high quality, flexible study facilities, that support interactive project-based education where industry, students and staff can collaborate. This will initially be based at the Queen’s Buildings in Cardiff.

In this talk we will also illustrate some of the world-leading research the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University is pioneering in Artificial Intelligence and presenting around the world in prestigious conferences such as the Thirty-Third AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI-19). We will present advanced Natural Language Processing capabilities that exploit semantic vector representations and manipulates them to provide humans automatically with deeper relational knowledge from text. We will also illustrate how advanced machine learning and logic-based systems can work together for situational understanding, as part of a project funded by the UK Ministry of Defence and the US Army Research Laboratory.

We're also love some Lightning Talks (5 to 15 minutes on a relevant topic of your choosing) - you can message us beforehand, or just approach us at the start of the meetup.

Yolk Recruitment are kindly sponsoring the food* and drink, Tramshed Tech are graciously providing the venue, and our thanks ARTIMUS for their continued sponsorship of the group.

Look forward to seeing you there!

*please message us in advance with any specific dietary requirements - we usually provide Domino's pizzas, as well as beers, cider and soft drinks
