Audience: EveryoneDescription: We will hike all the trails East of the Horse Bridge in the Blue Hills (this is the Nike Missile Base area). This is a trail trace which means we hike every inch of every trail in this area, so there will be some in's and out's. The hike is a little more than 6 miles and should take between 3 and 4 hours. The terrain is mostly flat, so we will be hiking at a moderate to slightly faster pace. We will stop for a trail lunch. Bring your lunch and ~2 liters of water, snacks, sunscreen/insect repellent, and a backpack to hold your gear.
We will be parking at the Donovan School, 123 Reed St, Randolph, MA 02368. The meetup time is 9:45 AM for a 10 AM start.Reminder: Please click the RSVP link above to register!

Audience: EveryoneDescription: Please join us as we kick off our Tuesday Blue Hills Summer Conditioning Series starting on June 2nd. The series will run every Tuesday through September 15th. Difficulty level is on the more challenging end of moderate.
The hikes will be approximately 4 hours long and cover between 6-8 miles and range between 1,200-1,800’ of elevation gain. The pace will average around 2mph but will be faster on flat to low grade surfaces and a bit slower when ascending/descending steep inclines. The routes will include uneven terrain, rock scrambles and ledges in the Blue Hills.
You won’t need a lot of gear, but we recommend sturdy footwear, a backpack, non-cotton clothing suitable for hiking, full rain gear, at least 2 liters of water, lunch or snacks, bug spray, and sun block. Trekking poles are optional but recommended.
Participant count will be capped at 10 to help us maintain the pace and starting locations will vary each week as we explore different parts of the reservation.
These hikes are open to all who qualify and you do not have to be a member of AMC to participate. You do not have to commit to attend every hike to participate, but on-line registration is required for each weekly hike.Reminder: Please click the RSVP link above to register!

Registration Type: Application

Audience: AdultsDescription: Please join us for our Summer Conditioning Hike Series in the Blue Hills. This 16-week series will run every Tuesday morning from June 2nd through September 17th. This series is designed for intermediate and advanced hikers who are looking to maintain or enhance their conditioning level. Participants should be in good physical condition with recent hiking experience that includes elevation. You can expect the hikes to be about 4 hours and approximately 6-8 miles with an elevation gain ranging from 1,200-1,800 feet (elevation gain will progress throughout the series). The pace will average around 2mph but will be faster on flat to low grade surfaces and a bit slower when ascending/descending steep inclines. Difficulty level is on the more challenging end of moderate. The routes will include uneven terrain, rock scrambles and ledges in the Blue Hills. One difference between this series and the Spring Conditioning Series is that weather will be closely monitored by the leaders. When weather forecasts predict above 80F weather, we will reserve the right to change the hike to one off the skyline and into the wooded areas. In this case, the distance of the hike may be the conditioning aspect of the hike, rather than the elevation. Safety is our first priority, FUN is our second!
Participants should bring sturdy footwear, a backpack, layered clothing suitable for hiking in the spring, rain gear, at least 2 liters of water , a lunch or snacks and sun block. Trekking poles are optional but recommended. Ticks are out so cool, long sleeved tops and long pants are recommended. Circle-Up time is 9:45am and end time is around 2:00pm, but may be as late as 2:15. Online registration is required for each weekly hike, but you are not required to attend each session. The hike is open to everyone 18 or older and you do not need to be a member of AMC to participate.
The exact starting location along with a detailed information sheet with all of the specifics will be sent to registered hikers several days prior to the actual hike. Reminder: Please click the RSVP link above to register!
