What we're about

Want better relationships? Looking to feel more connected to others?

Based on the idea of living in the present moment, cultivating self love, and expressing your truths in connection, our Authentic Relating events involve interactive social games & interpersonal meditation practices.

Our Authentic Relating events are immersive small- and medium-size group events which mix emotional intelligence (EQ), relational intelligence (RQ) and meditation practices.

At our events, you can expect to:
Connect with others
Explore a full range of emotions
Play outside your normal box
Practice self-expression
Learn who you are & what you truly want
Develop relational intelligence
Develop integral ("teal") awareness
Develop group leadership skills

Interpersonal meditations are sometimes fun, sometimes intense, sometimes beautiful, sometimes sad. We practice being with each other, and being seen, in the full range of our humanity. We take risks and learn how to set boundaries. We learn how to play, and how to care.

All while making lifelong friends, as we explore these realms of intimacy & authenticity together!

What's Special About an Authentic Relating Community?
Authentic Relating is the practice of utilizing relationships as a lens for self-discovery, and vulnerability as a tool for mind-blowing, heart-opening connection.

Authentic relating is a contemplative path: we meditate on the experience of being together—on the sense of connection, on what arises in relationship with each other. We observe moment by moment, sharing what it's like to be with each other. There is fun available, but also a depth of practice for those who want more.

Over time through this practice, we develop the ability to uphold five principles:
Honor Self
Honor Other
Hide Nothing
Everything is OK
Own Your Experience

Put into one sentence, relational meditation involves tracking our own well-being (Honor Self) in connection with each other (Honor Other), while practicing expressing ourselves honestly, openly, and clearly.

These are wonderful relational practices, and can have a huge influence on your ability to have successful relationships--both at home and in the workplace!

Come check it out!

We invite you to join our community and to experience not just the depth possible in an evening of authentic relating, but the sense of soul-enlivening community available for all who play, relate with us over the long term.

Our groups are presently on Sunday evenings, and we also host occasional weekend workshops, talks, and professional seminars.

Looking forward to meeting you! And don't forget to join our mailing list!

SOLD OUT! Sexual Shame in Men: Turning Down the Inner Critic w/ Jallen Rix, PhD

Welcome to AuthenticNC's monthly in-depth workshop series!

Don't miss this rare opportunity to connect with sexologist & activist Jallen Rix, PhD, who we're co-hosting from California for this talk!

This cross-listed talk is currently sold out--please join the wait list if you are interested in joining.

We'll look consciously at sexual shame and taboos inherited from the distant past, and explore how to get past our inner critic.

Click the RSVP button below to sign up & make sure to add this to your calendar! This event is cross-listed, and currently has around 20 attendees. Please RSVP today to reserve your spot or let us know if you need to pay cash at the door.

What You'll Experience:
Do your sexual experiences often come with an unintended guest: your inner critic?

Although it seems that voice is inevitably somewhere in the shadows, when it comes time to being sexual the inner critic is often ready to tell you the many ways you never measure up: “You’re not sexy enough, you’re not young enough, you’re not wealthy enough, you’re not relationship material, you’re not, you’re not, you’re not EVER enough!”

Sexologist, Jallen Rix has been on a recent journey of sorts to finally turn down, if not silence all together, his own chronic inner critic. As a religious abuse survivor, Jallen felt hopelessly at his “critic’s” mercy for most of his life. However, in the past few years, he has had a genuine breakthrough and he is thrilled to tell you about his ongoing transformation.

At this lively discussion, you will experience tips and tools that are creating a new mindset for Jallen through the tangible practice of self-kindness. Turn down the volume of self judgement, and turn up—WAY UP—your self-compassion.

This event is co-sponsored by Triangle Gay Men's Tantra and other local groups.

Facilitator’s Bio:
Speaker, author, and sexuality activist, Jallen Rix holds a Doctorate of Education in Sexology. He has taught as a professor at the University of Nevada, Reno and the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality. He maintains a private practice in Palm Springs. He is a leading expert on the damaging effects of, and recovery from, ex-gay ministries and so-call "reparative therapy." His book, Ex-Gay No Way: Survival and Recovery from Religious Abuse, was nominated as best non-fiction book of 2010 by the Lambda Literary Foundation. He has appeared on talk shows, like Our America with Lisa Ling on the OWN Channel, and ABC’s News Magazine 20/20. Learn more about Jallen's work at: https://doctorrix.com/

Logistics:
This talk will take place in Raleigh-Durham. Location near Brier Creek.

Doors will open at 6:15pm, and there will be time for Q&A at the end.

RSVP below, and bring $20 cash at the door.

This talk is open to anyone in the general public older than 18 years old, and will be cross-listed with several other Meetups. We're expecting around 30 attendees.

Who Is This For?
This talk is open to any adult interested in learning more about turning down the inner critic in their own sexuality, and we will focus primarily on men's experiences.

We expect all participants to be fully responsible for their own physical, emotional, and psychological well-being during these events: Honor Self. And we invite all participants to respect each others' boundaries and be kind: Honor Other.

If this is for you, we look forward to meeting you!

T-Group Relational Meditation: Get Past Small Talk & Meet Inspiring People!

Armonía Health LLC

$20.00

Welcome to Durham T-Group! Hope you will be brave and come try it out... this is a group where even shy people tend to feel connected by the end of their first session!

What is T-Group?
I've been practicing T-Group for 10 years, and some of the happiest moments of my life were in these small groups. It's a great practice to fill your tank before your workweek begins!

On the surface, T-Group is very simple... you sit in a small circle, and share spontaneously and freely:

Emotions & feelings
Desires
Sensations
Reactions
Feedback

However, something huge that often ties us up in knots is left out—our thoughts & opinions! This is what makes it both fun, and an interpersonal meditation practice. T-group is an easygoing, deep and transformational practice, and one of my favorite authentic relating practices.

We begin each session with a brief meditation and a ~20 minute intro to the practice before we dive in to the T-group relational meditation practice.

How to RSVP
We offer drop-in, 10-pass, and monthly memberships.

For drop-in, please RSVP using Meetup and secure your spot with payment via PayPal: https://paypal.me/BenjaminWhitehurst or let us know you'll bring $20 cash at the door.

Discounted 10-passes & memberships are here:
https://www.navigatechange.org/tgroup/

RSVP to apply your 10-pass or memberships here via our scheduling app: https://NavigateChange.as.me/AuthenticRelating

Please let us know you're coming, as space is limited! And thank you for supporting our efforts to bring in-person authentic relating events back to Durham! See our Patreon below, if you're interested in contributing toward the Center we're working to open!

Logistics
Doors open at 4:45. We begin at 5:00pm and end at 8:00pm. No entry permitted after 5:15pm. Please plan to stay for the entire session, as we do a grounding exercise at the end.

Please leave all food and drink other than water in a container with a lid in your car to respect the healing center we will be renting. Let's leave the space sparkling clean and full of good energy for the healing sessions happening early the next day!

The group is encouraged to self-organize to go out together afterwards for a walk or for snacks at the Durham Coop, where there is plenty of seating.

Who Is This For?
Those who join us tend to be brave—authentic relating requires a level of openness uncommon in our society. Are you willing to be in the presence of all emotions—including the ones we usually avoid like shame, jealousy, anger, sadness? Are you willing to express yourself openly and receive authentic feedback from others? If you have this level of bravery, then this event is for you.

We expect all participants to be fully responsible for their own physical, emotional, and psychological well-being during these events: Honor Self. And we invite all participants to respect each others' boundaries and be kind: Honor Other.

If this is for you, we look forward to meeting you!

To help us experience as much joy and as little drama as possible, we've created a Disclosure & Waiver detailing these expectations of self-responsibility & kindness to others, including the known risks of the practice and guidelines for conflict resolution. Your registration for this event means you have read and agree to the terms of this waiver, including the agreement to fully resolve any disputes related to this event using community conflict mediation. You can find our invitation toward diversity & sameness on the same page.

We invite you to join a 10-year-old community and experience not just the depth possible in an evening of authentic relating, but the sense of soul-enlivening community available for all who play, relate with us over the long term.
