What we're about
Are you good without a god? Hey, so are we!
We all benefit from a supportive community for friends, charity, and fostering a better understanding of secular values with our neighbors. Atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, humanists, skeptics, non-religious, lost tourists, and the generally confused are all welcome to join us!
It is often claimed that atheists are rare when in fact nearly 20% of our nation's population do not believe in a higher power. Still, atheists can feel isolated because the religious community is so organized and outspoken on issues. Building and participating in a community is the first step toward being heard.
Plus - the conversation is great!
The Arkansas Society of Freethinkers is an organization of secular individuals whose goals are to:
Build a supportive and active community.
Promote public acceptance of nonbelievers.
Defend science education and the separation of church and state.
We encourage everyone to suggest events and activities. In addition to various volunteer, social, and public events, our regular events are:
Monthly Lecture Series
1st Tuesday dinner and drinks
New member welcome potluck
Book Club
Damgoode Pies Pint Night
The "Freespeakers" Toastmasters chapter
Human Light mid-winter celebration
Winter Solstice holiday display at the Arkansas State Capitol
Public Events that we regularly support and attend
Science Cafe
Socrates Cafe
We are a volunteer organization and most of our events are free for the public to attend. If you want to support the Arkansas Society of Freethinkers and help us keep sponsoring these activities and events, membership is $30 a year. Our membership year is Jan 1st - Dec 31st.
New members and new ideas are always welcome.

Enjoy disc golf? Lack of discs keeping you from trying? Don't know what disc golf is?
Join us on the third Saturday morning of the month to play a round (weather permitting). We will play at least 9 baskets worth of golf starting at 9am-"9 at 9"! The course location will vary from month to month. Currently the metro area courses are in Hindman Park (SWLR), Morehart Park (SWLR), Reservoir Park (WLR), Burns Park (NLR), Stone Links Park (NLR), Tyndall Park (Benton), and Bishop Park (Bryant). There are also courses not far out of the metro in Beaverfork Park (Conway), Greenbrier, Cedar Glades Park (Hot Springs), and Dupree Park (Jacksonville). Pine Valley golf course (Gravel Ridge/Sherwood) has a disc golf course around it's ball golf course but requires a $5 fee to play. (It's completely worth it too!) My favorite course of all is Persimmon Ridge Disc Golf Resort next to Woolly Hollow State Park north of Greenbrier. You do have to pay to play but it's also completely worth it.
This month we play at Morehart Park. It's an easy 9-basket course with dual teepads. This is a great course for beginners.

LeeWood has a few extra discs you may use but supplies are limited and will be loaned out on a first contacted, first served basis. Text or call him[masked]
Discs can be purchased locally ($10-$20 each) from 13 Peaks (NLR), Abby Road Stores and Academy Sports (3 locations). Discs can also be purchased online at lots of websites.
