What we're about
This Meetup group is for MA/RI community members who have an interest in astronomy.
This Meetup is sponsored by the Astronomical Society of Southern New England (ASSNE), a formal dues-paying club of 90+ amateur astronomers in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Our Meetup events are open to the public. Please sign up with the group to get notices of new events; RSVP for events you are interested in to get reminders (and in some cases, space is limited). Nearly all events are free (workshops may have a materials costs).
ASSNE's motto is to “to educate and inspire” and we have a passion for showing the night sky to as many people as possible and firing their enthusiasm for astronomy. On a volunteer basis, ASSNE members host public observing nights, give astronomy talks and demonstrations, and teach workshops on observing and using astronomy equipment.
If you are not a member of ASSNE, but have a telescope or pair of binoculars, feel free to bring it to any of our events, or come to an ASSNE club meeting and learn how to use it!
Please note, you do not need to know anything about astronomy, own any equipment, or pay dues to attend our public meetups. Just come and enjoy the night sky with us, and we will happily answer your questions. We look forward to seeing you under the stars!
