Re: [modeling-193] Your Questions Answered

As an experienced model who has learned the ins and outs of the business this might be a good opportunity to give back a little and share a little bit with models who are just starting out.  I am sure when you were starting you either benefited or could have benefited from someone with more experience who could offer a few helpful pointers.
It is also about meeting and greeting with other professionals as well.  Just as with the photographers group, Eric has open the models group up to individuals with all levels of experience.
Regards, Chip

Ok, I have a question, just so I understand and neither of us waste our time.  I am already well established as a model and have been with different agencys for quite some time.  The only reason really that I am on model mayhem is to locate photographers with different styles since i new back in the area.  It sounds more like an information meeting for people who are new to the business and I just don't want to waste my time showing up if the purpose is learning things that i already know.  If it is a meet and greet for other professionals I would love to come though!  Let me know!! Thanks!!

A special announcement from Eric J. Ellis, Organizer of Atlanta Model Meetup and Shootout

Hello Atlanta Model MeetUp and ShootOut members!

Things are growing fast! It is looking like this month's meetup will be a blast. Here are some questions and answers that should help you understand our goals. If you have input, please feel free to share.

Because of my background as a pro photographer, a lot of photographers have joined the group. I'd like to encourge photographers in the group to ask their friends in the modeling industry to join in. Models of all types are invited as long as they add to the positive environment we are trying to create.

It's going to be great June 6th at our meetup. Music, food and beverage, shooting and networking. Please help us grow the group by inviting your friends. Remember, after the shootout "social" attendees are invited to the "after-party" at the Bistro.

We'll se you there,
AMMS Organizer
my photography website

Questions and Answers:

Q) Is there a cost to come to the MeetUps?
$10 for photographers and models participating an the MeetUp and shootouts and $5 for people who attend the "after-party" for networking, watching, and being social.

Q) Will there be at least one a shoot every month?
A - In general, we will have a monthly "shootout" where any model and any photographer may join in as long as they are respectful and add to the positive environment we are trying to create. Any photographer or model in attendance may spin-off the main area during a shootout or arrange to meet and shoot individually later.

Q) As a model, will I be expected to sit for the shootout, or can I just come along to have fun and do some networking?
A - Whatever you like as long as you add to the positive environment we are trying to create.

Q) Will there be modeling workshops, to teach me pose progressions, etc.?
A - In due time. Right now we are focused keeping the cost of entry low. We will add more to the MeetUps as we grow.

Q) Will there be photography workshops, to teach me lighting techniques, etc.?
A - In due time.

Q) I don't want to focus on portraiture or glamour photography. Is there a Photography Meetup group that discusses other genres or more general photography topics?
A - We do that with the Atlanta Photography MeetUp a group of Atlanta Photographers with whom we meetup with from time to time. Please join!

Q) I'm a new model, and I want to learn how to get an agent, and start building my modeling career etc...
A - These topics and more will be discussed before each monthly shootout. Getting out and meeting industry pros once a month probably couldn't hurt!

Q) I'm a photographer, and I want to learn how to become a pro, get sponsors to give me cool gear for free (ha ha), etc?how can the AMMS Help?
A - AMMS gets you out from behind your computer and getting you out in the community of other pros. Networking is the essence of any freelance business, especially photography and modeling.

Q) As an intermediate/semi-pro model or photographer, I'd like some honest feedback on my work, from experienced professionals. I'm sick of people telling me "It's good." I want some constructive criticism, so I can really improve.
A - Great! Every member is encouraged to bring a portfolio or some photos to every event in order to get honest, constructive, and thoughtful criticism from other members of the MeetUp.
