WWTO July 2014: Bionik Laboratories ARKE Exoskeleton, eSight, SENSIMAT & Lynxio

Details
The potential of wearable technology to augment our physical capabilities is powerful. We are already seeing wearable robotics or exoskeletons offering paraplegics and people who use wheelchairs the ability to walk, smart glasses enabling the visually impaired to actually see and other devices facilitating improvements in health and healing.
Our July event explores this augmentation with some game-changing companies in this space including Bionik Laboratories (The ARKE Exoskeleton), eSight Eyewear, SENSIMAT, Lynxio and Sensassure.

About the Tech
Bionik Laboratories (http://www.bioniklabs.com/) was created to reinvent the standards of biomechatronics using creativity and uniquely advanced healthcare solutions for persons with restricted physical mobility. The company has grown quickly since their first concept, which was the world’s first brain controlled prosthetic device. Media and industry response to the duo’s artificial arm only sparked further innovation leading to Bionik’s first product that will go to market, the much anticipated Arke™ exoskeleton.
eSight (http://www.esighteyewear.com/) is digital eyewear that enables people with low vision or legal blindness to actually see. Looking much like fit-over sunglasses, eSight eyewear uses an advanced, high-resolution video camera to capture what the wearer is looking at and delivers those video images to a controller with a highly sophisticated computer. The images are processed and then in real-time, projected onto two LED screens inside the eSight eyewear. In this way, eSight provides as near-normal vision as one’s condition allows.
SENSIMAT (http://www.sensimatsystems.com/) for Wheelchairs is the first and only active, intelligent pressure management tool that can be used in combination with existing wheelchair cushions. The SENSIMAT for Wheelchairs has been validated with wheelchair users at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. It has also been tested at several other healthcare institutions including an advanced rehabilitation facility, a nursing simulation hospital, a spinal cord injury model center, an acute care facility, and many community-based wheelchair users.
Lynxio (http://www.lynxio.com/) the digital knee brace that helps you heal by managing your recovery, visualizing progress and linking you to your physiotherapist. Lynxio is a fully integrated electronic physiotherapy system that can be used to gather raw data from the body. It works as a mobile application in combination with a knee brace with embedded electronics. The application provides physiotherapy patients with their exercise routines, progress reports, therapists notes, and information on specific exercises. The data gathered from the movements and is then used to improve therapy results and reduce recovery time.
Sensassure (http://www.sensassure.com/) is the only disposable incontinence tool that provides continuous monitoring on any commercial brief. Our sensors measure the brief's moisture threshold, relay this information to a reusable transmission device, and integrate seamlessly into the nurses' workflow.
