The AWS Portland team is excited to announce that we're hosting our 2nd AWS Portland Hackathon in July. This time it's virtual! The goal of this free event is to invite AWS enthusiasts from the Portland community (that's you!) to team up with fellow technologists for a day of learning, building, and friendly competition powered by the AWS platform. All are welcome, from cloud newbies to seasoned AWS experts. If you're interested in joining us, read below for some important details.

This event will be virtual from 8 am - 8 pm on Saturday, July 11, 2020. We will form into teams of five. On the morning of the event, we'll unveil several challenges for teams to choose from. Together with your teammates you will pick a challenge, decide on your approach, and then design, build, test, and refine your solution. At the end of the day, the teams will demo their solutions to our judges panel. We'll close out the day by announcing the winners and awarding prizes. Grubhub will be providing the food!

We'll provide AWS experts to answer any technical questions, food and prizes. All you need to bring is a technical background, and the desire to network, learn, experiment, build, and of course have fun! Previous AWS experience is of course helpful, but is not required.

For those who are interested in career opportunities at AWS, we will also have recruiting and local hiring managers at the event to meet and talk to. But just to be clear, our primary goal is to host a fun event by and for the Portland tech community.

Before you register, here are some important aspects about the event we'd like you to consider:

  • When you sign up, we ask that you commit to attending for the full day (8 am to 8 pm). Your team is going to be ideating, creating a business case, building and testing a solution, and presenting a demo for judging and prizes at the end of the day. Your teammates will be counting on you to be able to participate for the duration of the day.
  • Since capacity is limited, we will manage a wait list if necessary. We will be getting in touch the week prior to the event to ask you to confirm your attendance. If you're not able to confirm at that time, we'll open that spot up to the next person on the waitlist.

We hope to see you there!
