Being a Man Today
Understanding Ourselves, Our Emotions & Relationships
A One-Day Experiential Workshop for Men
About the Workshop
What does it mean to be a man today?
As men, we often learn to be strong, responsible, and dependable. We learn to provide, protect, solve problems, and meet the expectations of those around us.
But what happens when we feel challenged, misunderstood, or not good enough? Why do we sometimes react with anger, defensiveness, or withdrawal, even with the people we care about most?
And how often do we take time to understand ourselves beneath all the roles we carry?
Being a Man Today offers a day to pause, reflect, and explore these questions alongside other men.
Through guided practices, meaningful conversations, and shared experiences, weโll discover how our upbringing and life experiences have shaped us, explore our emotions and habitual reactions, and find new ways of relating to ourselves and others.
This is not about becoming better men or changing who we are. Itโs about understanding ourselves more deeply and discovering greater freedom in how we meet life.
Our Journey Through the Day
The Man Iโve Learned to Be
Exploring the roles, expectations, and experiences that have shaped our understanding of masculinity.
Understanding Our Reactions
Recognizing what happens within us when we feel challenged, criticized, misunderstood, or disconnected, and what our reactions may be trying to protect.
Strength & Sensitivity
Exploring how resilience, emotional sensitivity, and vulnerability can coexist, without needing to choose between being strong and being open.
The Way We Relate
Discovering how our emotions, expectations, and reactions influence our relationships with partners, children, family, other men, society, and the natural world.
Bringing Awareness into Everyday Life
Practising simple ways to recognize our reactions, understand different perspectives, and respond to lifeโs challenges with greater awareness and choice.
What to Expect
This is an experiential workshop, not a day of lectures.
Throughout the day, weโll move between guided body-awareness practices, personal reflection, conversations in pairs, small-group activities, and sharing circles.
Drawing on the Biocentric Model of Consciousness, weโll explore three perspectives:
Self-awareness: Understanding what is happening within ourselves.
Empathy: Becoming curious about the experiences of others.
Systems perspective: Recognizing how we influence, and are influenced by, our relationships and the world around us.
There will be time for breaks, informal conversations, and integration throughout the day.
What Youโll Take Away
A deeper understanding of yourself and the experiences that have shaped you.
Greater awareness of your emotions and habitual reactions.
A new perspective on strength, sensitivity, and vulnerability.
Practical tools to bring more awareness into everyday relationships.
Meaningful connections and shared learning with other men.
No previous experience is required. Personal sharing is voluntary, and everyone is welcome to participate at their own pace.
