We are a friendly, primarily English-language writing group based in Abu Dhabi (on the island). Formerly known as "Abu Dhabi Fiction Writers", we have broadened our group’s scope to include any form of creative writing undertaken for pleasure or profit. We welcome beginners and professionals alike and our main goal, apart from connecting with other writers, is to help members improve, complete (or even start) their writing. It is free to join our group and to attend any of the sessions.
We meet ever Sunday at 7pm, Shakespeare Cafe, WTC Mall (Central Souk Side). Our weekly sessions are usually categorized as below:
Directed Writing/“Shut up and Write!” session – an opportunity to work on your own project(s) in the company of other writers. If you don't have a current writing project, you will be invited to select a "prompt" word (from a list) upon which to base a short written work. The session will be divided between active (but silent) individual writing and short discussion breaks.
Directed Writing/“Shut up and Write!” feedback session/critique night - writers who have completed a piece from previous sessions will be invited to have their piece read aloud to the group. Anyone from the group is then free to provide feedback on the work. It is not compulsory for your work to be read out.
Shut up and Read/Book swap session - an opportunity to bring out the reader in you. Interested members may bring along books for inspiration, have some quiet reading sessions and swap some books to take home till next time.
Workshop - discussion and activity-based session that will cover some aspect of writing.
Please note that sessions may be postponed during holidays. Keep an eye on our group’s page for updates.
As always, we welcome any ideas, requests and suggestions from our members.
