What we're about
We are a friendly, English-language writing group based in Abu Dhabi (on the island). We welcome beginners and professionals alike and our main goal, apart from connecting with other writers, is to help members improve, complete (or even start) their writing. It is free to join our group and to attend any of the sessions.
With Covid restrictions still in place, we currently meet at socially distanced tables every other Sunday at 7pm at Leen's Cafe, WTC Mall. We have several members who are still part of the group despite moving away from Abu Dhabi and so the alternate Sundays we meet on zoom.
We are an informal group, and use the sessions to motivate and give feedback on each other's work, whether that be a novel, poem, blog post or flash fiction. Members are encouraged to read their work out if they wish, or post it for others to read online. We have a fledgling website where people can post, either just for the group to workshop a piece, or for the public to enjoy.
We also have Shut Up And Write and Word Race sessions, which is an opportunity to work on your own project(s) in the company of other writers. The session is be divided between active (but silent) individual writing and short discussion breaks.
As always, we welcome any ideas, requests and suggestions from our members.
Upcoming events (4+)
Come meet some like-minded word lovers at Leen’s Restaurant in World Trade Centre mall this Sunday. Have you had a tough time getting a schedule to focus and write? Do you have writer’s block? Have you written something that you’d simply like some advice on? Or do you simply want to hang out around other creatives?
We're a friendly and supportive group. Some people read their work, but you are under no obligation to do so. Come and join us from 7pm-9pm!

The first rule of Write Club is: 'Don't talk during Write Club'.
We sit for fifty minutes in silence (on mute).
If you join late, make sure to mute your mic on Zoom.
Work on whatever you want to do, this is your hour to be in community, doing what you want.
This is a no pressure space. So, please don't feel obligated to "write" in particular. You can work on other creative pages, like...
- coloring & painting
- composing a letter/email to a friend
- read a little of that novel
- how do I do that thing on a spreadsheet
You might have heard of Shut up & Write, Cave sessions, and Writers' Hour. We do something similar here.
We go through the mud of it, together.
So just show up.
