The Right Tool for the Job: Using Accessibility Software

The Right Tool for the Job: Using Accessibility Software

Details

Software that guides digital accessibility has been applied to websites over the decades. While it is widely agreed upon that it cannot replace the experience of users living with disabilities, it can help us locate and apply remedies to some accessibility issues.

This ATC MeetUp session will shine a spotlight on:

  1. ATC members who use accessibility software as part of their jobs.
  2. An answer to the question: when is accessibility software effective and when is it not?
  3. Tips and tricks from ATC members who are knowledgeable in accessibility software and how to get the most from these tools.

Featured Panelist:

Charles Hall:
Senior Accessibility Designer, CVSHealth
Invited Expert, W3C Accessibility Guidelines Working Group & Silver Task Force
Chair, W3C Inclusive Design for the Immersive Web Community Group
Member, Ferndale Accessibility & Inclusion Advisory Commission
https://www.linkedin.com/in/hallcharles/

"I have been designing since before the web, with a decade in each visual design, front end web development, and user experience. I help people with accessibility issues, and contribute to as many global conversations on the topic as possible through multiple channels and communities of practice."

We're excited for Charles to join us and provide us with his experience using accessibility software.

Additional Panelists:

Sue Ann Rodriquez
Director of Accessibility Services at WeCo
https://www.linkedin.com/in/sue-ann-rodriquez-7b236921/

"As the Director of Accessibility Services at WeCo, I lead a team of digital Accessibility Specialists who live with disabilities, in the development of test cases to evaluate accessibility based upon web accessibility standards and guidelines--including Section 508 and WCAG 2.0. Compile test results and provide recommendations on various accessibility challenges in reports, meetings and training."

Accessibility Specialists from WeCo will also be available to answer questions and speak to:

  1. Open source accessibility tools they have used in their work.
  2. Performing manual audits and usability tests for clients who use accessibility tools and checkers.
