9 minutes a year, 5 seconds a page. That is our window of opportunity to engage energy consumers.

As Opower expands internationally, we are challenged to engage energy consumers in new languages, with distinct cultural norms, and unique home and energy device characteristics. During the last 4+ years of bringing our products to utilities across the globe we have designed, refined and redesigned a product localization process that leverages behavioral science and psychology, captures the unique cultural aspects of each community, while ensuring our 25,000 words of content, across the web and outbound communications (email, standard mail as well as some SMS) retains a consistent and engaging voice.

During our presentation we will share some stories of our initial failed attempts at localization, describe how we refined our process to minimize failure, and engage the group in a localization test/experiment.

As always, refreshments and socializing from 6:30-7:00pm. The presentation will begin promptly at 7:00pm.

Parking: There is parking in the building, which is $14 cash only, and the garage closes at 10pm sharp. There is also street parking available, or we are right outside of Courthouse metro station.
