What we're about

We are an Adelaide meet-up group interested in connecting designers, businesses, social entrepreneurs, tech boffins and individual changemakers to make positive, impactful, social and environmental change. We're keen to connect, share knowledge and build awareness in areas such as sustainable and circular design, design ethics, systems change, social and environmental issues and the circular and social economy.
If you’re passionate about social innovation, sustainable design and design for social impact — please join us. It turns out that there's a lot of cool stuff going on in this space, we're looking forward to exploring.

Design Ethics 2: Future Ethics Book Review and Q&A with Cennydd Bowles

For our kickoff event of the Design Ethics Series, we will be looking at Cennydd Bowles book “Future Ethics”. If you are in the business of designing and delivering technology and care about your role in navigating the industry towards a better future, this book is a must-read. Future Ethics explores three lenses of modern ethics (deontology, utilitarianism, and virtue ethics) to focus on some of the tech industry’s biggest challenges - unintended consequences, algorithmic bias, privacy and security, persuasive tech, malicious use, and more. These lenses help provide an ethical framework to navigate our design decisions, to ask the right questions and create the necessary discussions around the responses, and ultimately embed ethical thoughtfulness into our everyday work and business culture. Through a series of hands-on activities and group discussion, we'll explore some of the examples, vexing questions and practical tools from the book. We’ll then link up with Cennydd via videoconference, where he’ll join us for further discussion and Q&A. - - - - - Do I have to read the book? Everyone is welcome, even if you haven’t read the book. However, it would be helpful to watch at least one of Cennydd’s talks (see a few links below) and if you can, we strongly urge you to grab a copy (check the discount offer below).
