It is a social, fun and easy way for people to walk and be active. With more than one in four Australian adults (5.76 million people) doing very little or no exercise at all, Heart Foundation Walking is a great way to help people increase their physical activity. Over the past 21 years more than 80,000 Australians have participated in Heart Foundation Walking by walking in a group and/or being a Virtual Walker. Benefits of Heart Foundation Walking Increases your enjoyment. Many walkers tell us the social contact is what keeps them coming back year after year. Most groups also organise an occasional special walk or other social events to make being active even more fun. Helps you stay motivated. It’s easy to say, I’ll give my walk a miss today. However, knowing there is a group of people waiting for you can provide that extra motivation needed to get out the door. Keeps you committed. Many people find their enthusiasm for being active wanes after only a few months, especially if they experience an injury or illness. By being part of a group, you are more likely to make a commitment to walking regularly. Is a safe way to exercise. Walking in a group makes you more visible to motorists and cyclists, and ensures help is at hand should you have an accident or become ill while walking. Registration is free but essential. Don’t forget to bring a torch or headlamp. Walk from Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty and back. About 8km return and 500m of elevation. This is fantastic training if you want to stay fit or you are planning to do any longer hikes. It is not for beginners, and a basic level of fitness is required. The track is mostly sealed and is very good now, but you still need good trail/running shoes. Bring some water if you need to, and there is also water available at the top. A jacket may be needed as it can be a little windy! For all that effort, you are greeted with spectacular views over the city. Walkers take part in this activity entirely at their own risk. By RSVPing to this event, or attending as a guest, you are agreeing with the terms and conditions that are available on the main Meetup website. Please try to show up on time ( which means getting there a bit early) so that other walkers do not have to wait around. If you can't make it, un-RSVP, or message me on Meetup.
• What we'll do NOTE: Minimum of 3 required for this walk. From the carpark we will head up along the track, turn right up Ambers Gully Yurrebilla Trail and then back down Ambers Gully Track. This is a challenging hike along the trail up the hill and quite a steep decent down the track. A good level of hill fitness required for this hike. Wear sturdy shoes/boots. Bring a torch as it will get dark. Dress appropriately according to the weather and layer your clothes as necessary. Pack wet weather gear if rain forecast! A • Important to know NOTE: This walk will be in the dark therefore a headlight/torch and a reflective vest or armband are compulsory! There is also a minimum of 3 people if this walk is to proceed. These are for safety reasons.
