Setting the Table with Southern Cooks

Online event

Please join Darien Library and Barrett Bookstore for a lively virtual conversation with three southern cooks: Carrie Morey, Cheryl Day, and Stacey Little. We will celebrate their current work and learn about their favorite family recipes. Q & A will follow the discussion.

About Carrie Morey
Carrie Morey founded her handmade biscuit business in 2005, with the goal of making the tender, buttery, made-by-hand biscuits of her mother accessible across the country. Over 15 years later, Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit is widely recognized as an iconic Southern brand. Carrie is the author of two cookbooks and is currently starring in a culinary docu-series, How She Rolls, about biscuits, business, and balance in her life as an entrepreneur, debuting on PBS Spring 2021.

About Hot Little Suppers: Simple Recipes to Feed Family and Friends
Carrie Morey's her latest cookbook, Hot Little Suppers: Simple Recipes to Feed Family and Friends, will be published in October 2021. Inspired by her own family’s rich and varied culinary traditions and her passion for feeding family and friends in a welcoming, no-fuss way, this book offers a collection of 120 delicious recipes that bring everyone into the kitchen and around the table with beautiful, bright flavors from a range of culinary traditions.

About Cheryl Day
Cheryl Day is a New York Times bestselling cookbook author, a James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef, a self-taught scratch baker, and an entrepreneur. Cheryl and her husband Griffith are cofounders of the Back in the Day Bakery in Savannah, Georgia, and coauthors of The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook. Cheryl is a cofounder of Southern Restaurants for Racial Justice and a founding member of the leadership committee for the James Beard Foundation Investment Fund for Black and Indigenous Americans. Her first solo cookbook, Cheryl Day’s Treasury of Southern Baking, will be published in November 2021.

About Cheryl Day’s Treasury of Southern Baking
Cheryl Day brings together her deep experience, the conversations she’s had with grandmothers, great-aunts, and sister-bakers, and her passion for collecting local cookbooks and handwritten recipes in a definitive collection of over two hundred tried-and-true recipes that celebrate the craft of from-scratch Southern baking. Cheryl guides the baker in not only the recipes, ingredients, and special flavor profiles of Southern baking, but also the very nuances of how to be a better baker.

About Stacey Little
Stacey Little is a food blogger with a big following and an even bigger love for Southern food. He grew up refusing bowls of ice cream for bowls of collard greens. From the time he was old enough to bang on pots and pans, Stacey has found himself in the kitchen. Today, his easy, delicious recipes and heartfelt stories have brought millions to his blog, SouthernBite.com, since its creation in 2008.

About The Southern Bite
Whether it’s fried chicken or pimento cheese, fruit salad or meatloaf, everybody’s family does it a little differently. The Southern Bite is a celebration of those traditions and recipes every Southern family is proud to own. If you’re lucky enough to hail from the South, you’ll no doubt find some familiar favorites from your own family recipe archives, along with a whole slew of surprises from families a lot like yours!
