Sam Ritchie (@sritchie ( from Twitter is going to talk about Summingbird (, a library for performing computations across Storm and Hadoop, written in Scala.

Summingbird is a library that lets you write streaming MapReduce programs that look like native Scala or Java collection transformations and execute them on a number of well-known distributed MapReduce platforms like Storm ( and Scalding (

Sam will also talk about using Scala in Storm, and discuss why Scala is particularly well-suited to this work.

Thanks to Packt Publishing, we will be raffling off 2 electronic copies of the brand new "Storm Real-time Processing Cookbook" by Quinton Anderson ( ).
