Megaliths, Sunrise And Ancient Rituals

We will meet at the Brecon Beacons National Park Mountain Centre and if the weather is good for us we'll witness a timeless event, sunrise as the ancients would have seen it on the shortest day of the year.

It is believed that the stones that dot the landscape in the Brecon Beacons are aligned and mark an ancient spot which we'll visit in order to observe the sun rising, hidden, until it emerges from behind Pen y Fan's ridge to reveal itself in the Bwlch formed with Corn Ddu and Pen y Fan.

We will then go for a walk and locate the aligned stones as well as take a drive to have a look at Maen Llia, the largest standing stone in the area and a fine marker... but... for what?
