I would like to share with you some of the answers that other Organizers and a handful of Members have given in response to the question: "Why are you against the New View transition on March 10th?". The answers below were collected when Organizers or Members joined the group "Members Against the New View Transition on March 10th" which was founded within hours after CTO Greg Whalin announced that the new view will become mandatory for all Meetup groups on March 10th.

Since the announcement, has been flooded with responses upon response from Organizers who oppose the new view or the forced transition to the new view on March 10th. Many organizers questioned if even cared about us anymore, others speculated against a pending sale of the company to other social community providers.

In just under 24 hours since announcement, the advocacy group has grown to over 60 Members. The mission of the group was to convince, by using our numbers and pleas, to postpone their mandatory transition to the new view. was made aware of the group in numerous posts made to the forums which they actively monitor. In the early morning hours, just when we were beginning to believe that what we had done was successful, sites were forcibly upgraded to the new view.

The events that have taken place within the last three weeks have truly shown that has caused significant damage to the relationship with some of their customers. Some organizers have indicated that they have decided to leave for other social community platforms while others continued to post negative comments against the organization to the forums.

I believe that has the potential of offering the best social platform, but cannot do so at the risk of upsetting their customers and damaging relationships that have taken years to build upon. In an effort to resolve this situation, Meetup Organizers deserve an explanation and apology from and a clear list of actions that they will take to rebuild the relationship with their customers., I look forward to receiving your response.

"If I had wanted facebook groups, I wouldn't be paying for meetup! I want the right 2 choose the layout that works. Do meetup want to compete with Facebook and screw the professional "event" organisers. Might have to move to eventbrite? Sad." - Alan Hemmings (NL Account), London

"Far too many reasons to list here. And they are jeopordizing the 3 groups I'm the main organizer for, not to mention the dozens of other groups I'm involved in." - Atul, Calgary, AB

"1) Arrogant, insensitive treatment from MUHQ. 2) The emphasis is now on inane website busy-ness. For YEARS we've begged for various fixes & enhancements. Instead, we get an ugly, confusing, Facebook-like design, forced on us with NO options." - Beth Owl's Daughter, Durham, NC

"I believe in choice" - Bob, Orlando, FL

"I think that this new view is entirely to full of clutter, you no longer see what the group is about without having to click onto a tab....which most people will not notice. Just junky looking!!!" - BOBBIE , Janesville, WI

"the current version "works" fantastically, I can easily see all of the meetups coming up or the ones in the past, I can add my comments if I like without having the page convoluted with "facebook" type social postings. So why mess with that?" - Carla Norris, Longwood, FL

"Why change something that members are opposing too. " - Carmen, Orlando, FL

"I am responsible for a dozen or so Meetups around the country, and the current "new view" is terrible for every single one of them. What is even worse is Meetup's seeming indifference to the consistent negative feedback. " - Chris, Dallas, TX

"Meetup is meetup. Facebook is Facebook. Making Meetup into Facebook means I have to reason to be on Meetup" - Davin Hattaway, Alexandria, VA

"Too many reasons to mention. I posted several comments, complaints, and constructive criticism and feedback on Meetup HQ Blog and on the Organizer Forum. I guess my concerns don't matter." - Elissa, Syosset, NY

"The "new view" is visually off-putting and against the purpose of Meetup. Instead of putting group descriptions, events, and a calendar in the center, it puts RSVPs and such there. Please keep the classic view or give organizers a choice!" - Emmy, Los Angeles, CA

"I dont like it when things are shoved down my throat!!" - Eric, Chandler, AZ

"I feel the change was totally unnecessary, and a leap *away* from what Meetup seemed to originally promote - getting people to meet face to face. I agree with some that MU is going the way of Facebook and the other online social network sites." - Eric, Raleigh, NC

"I already have a Facebook account I don't need another one with even more random nonsense. But other than that I really detest the new view." - Erica , Bethesda, MD

"It is not applicable for my groups and I and no longer enjoy organizing and browsing other pages. It is not userfriendly any more." - Evelyn, New York, NY

"Meetup should be reponsive to it's Organiers. We had no say in this change." - George, Yonkers, NY

"I like the original one. New one seems hard to navigate, and I like being able to personalize the old view with the colors I have chosen." - Gini Graham Scott, Oakland, CA

"All I wanted was a choice between the two views or a valid response from MU why this wasn't an option. I am very disappointed in how this has been handled on their end." - Heather, Vancouver, WA

"Too many to list now." - Howard S., Oakland, CA

"Meetup Headquarters is my main gripe. I know stupidity when I deal with it, and to have to pay to deal with it is an affront to all that is rational in this world. I hope they march directly into bankruptcy, quite frankly." - Ian, Jacksonville, FL

"All of the usual reasons, mainly: Tiny events section, gigantic Latest Activity feed in the center of the page, hidden group description for members." - Jeanette, Denver, CO

"I disklike facebook. I suspect a new, fancy interface will be slower, and my computer is not fast." - Jeff, Oakland, CA

"The new view is a disorganized mess. The latest activity module dead center in the page looks terrible, and makes it harder to find the real reason for a Meetup group, the upcoming events my assistant and I have planned. " - Jerry, Byron Center, MI

"It is a pet peeve of mine when software companies force "enhancement" onto users.....GRRRR" - Joe Roesch, Clermont, FL

"I'm for choice, and the transition does not involve choice." - John Cabrall, Alameda, CA

"It's much harder to find what I want to look at in the new view. The older one is much better, cleaner, and shows what I want to see." - John V, Berkeley, CA

"I loved Windows XP, why change it? Look what happen to Windows Vista. The existing view is comfortable and easy to find things on the fly. Why change something that works?" - JohnT, Mill Valley, CA

" is for events not making money, they got greedy and sold out." - Jonathan Cook, Winter Park, FL

"This is becoming more complicated than necessary. Visually the old view is more inviting to full paricipation. Taking away choice is a bit disappointing." - Joy, San Francisco, CA

"Why make a change - why fix something that isn't broken" - Julie Akyol, Orlando, FL

"I think the new design is busy and looks like crap!" - Kendrick, Winter Park, FL

"The new layout is far less useful, efficient, or 'clean.' Why force us to use it when you've already demonstrated you can support letting us choose?" - Kevin, New York, NY

"This is just an opportunity for MUHQ to hide the problems they cannot solve." - Lara, Maple Ridge, BC

"too much informaion" - laura, Titusville, FL

"I agree with the others" - Lauren Hadley, Orlando, FL

"The main thing I don't like is the absence of past meetings from the home page. If you don't have a meeting planned, nothing is on your home page and visitors can't quickly see how active you are." - Lee T., Berkeley, CA

"In principal. It will not be best for my hyper-active group. May I respectfully request that you please also disable the Mailing List if you wish to keep my membership. I do not wish to become a spam statistic either." - Len, Leicester

"Frankly it's too cluttered for my liking. And as many have said in fourms I don't agree with sticking my upcoming Meetups over on the sidebar but making useless "activity feed" the main focus. We are not a social networking group!" - Lendsey, Springfield, VA

"The template is visually unappealing, reduced in functionality, and the navigation is unintuitive." - m4f0x, Columbia, MD

"Because it is cluttered, complicated, unclassy and a disadvantage to organisers. Worst of all,I was comfortable navigating my site and now cannot figure out how to change the activity module, add photos on home page etc. And who do you ask for help?" - marianne, Boston, MA

"I really only have one issue; we are now going to loose focus on the important special events that MeetUp has provided in the past....I may get bored sifting through all the postings on my new "MEETBOOK" subscription. X..Worried Tortoise." - Mark James, Orlando, FL

"it SUCKS!!!!!!!!" - Marvin, Hastings, FL

"too cluttered. " - Michaela, Richmond, CA

"This transition seems more like a 'd*ck measuring contest' than any actual improvement. The 'activity view' is more often-than-not likened to SPAM. Nobody cares who commented on a photo 7 hours ago. We just want to see the upcoming schedule." - Mike B., Riverview, FL

"Meetup HQ obviously has an agenda here that doesn't match the organizers agenda, more in person meetups." - Miles, San Francisco, CA

"It is Not user Friendly" - Misdemeanor, Chandler, AZ
"Full version does not work on mobile, are forced to use stripped down mobile version." - Organizer Eric, Sandy, UT

"There is no justification to the hurt and damage that has caused to the ones they should care about most. For a company that claims to have a great mission and values, this is a true example of the breakdown between in our relationship." - Oryx, Columbia, MD

"Oh, you need to ask?" - Peter, New York, NY

"The New View is just too busy. I want people to come to my group's page and see what we are, and links to our upcoming meetings and recent meetings. The chatter shown by the New View distracts the visitor." - Peter, Berkeley, CA

"I don't care what other people are doing or have to say for the most part. I'm just looking for activities that match my interests. I don't like mailings of posts. If I want to see messages I could go out to the message boards...but I never do." - Rich, Deland, FL

"Hiding the intro blurb existing members. The change of emphasis from meetups to activity, and that the calendar is hard to find. Meetup's offensive position that they know what's best for me. " - Rikki Mitman, Houston, TX

"It's clunky, cluttered, cacaphonous, and convuluted. And an entirely unnecessary change. Meetup's insistence that they know what is best for our groups is the insulting icing on this cake." - Robert C., Burbank, CA

"Because, it distracts from what the Organizers want for thier groups. " - Robert Linton, Saint Augustine, FL

"I'm against it because it is being forced upon people who have said they are content with the old style" - sam, Sanford, FL

"I don't like the new view. With today's tech, why should anyone be forced into a new appearance." - Scott Gutman, Boca Raton, FL

"We need simplicity, accessibility, and protection of our privacy, and meetup's only perspective seems to be getting bigger." - Stephen (The Poet), Orlando, FL

"I don't run a group, but several of my organizers are unhappy with it, and I support whatever they need to continue offering fabulous Meetups!" - Tami, Altamonte Springs, FL

"Because Meetup Corp are morons. " - Tom Pearson, Orlando, FL

"Concepts seem okay, but execution missed the mark: too cluttered; prime real estate devoted to wrong material. It's good to strive for improvement, but not at the expense of what differentiated Meetup from Facebook and Twitter in the first place. " - Wendy, San Ramon, CA

"The concept of MU is to meet others face to face. " - Yvonne, Orlando, FL
