41st Porto Meetup - #NoFrameworks

Hello folks! Here comes our 41st Agile Connect Porto community meetup! Have you ever dreamed of a world where everyone is purely Agile regardless of any Framework? If so, our friend Carlos Palminha would like to propose a discussion on how could this dream become reality, and you are welcome to join ;-)

Today one of the main challenges for organizations is how to scale software development. They face problems with the increased complexity of software, bigger organizations, distributed teams, coordination and inter-dependencies, managing and aligning for releases, creation of silos, etc…

Of course, the industry provides a lot of frameworks to scale Agile software development: Scrum of Scrums, LESS, SAFe, DAD, Spotify Model, etc… We also see an increasing amount of consultants, writers, speakers, training programs, certification organizations, advocating that applying a framework will solve software and companies' problems. Each of them will sell that they’re “magic wound” framework is the best silver bullet to apply.

In this talk, we will explore the development of the Linux Kernel, one of the longest and biggest open-source software projects in the world. Currently with 28 years of age, comprises an estimated community of 5000 to 6000 developers, with more than 26 million lines of code. It actively releases a stable version each 8 to 12 weeks and provides 7 versions simultaneously (2 stable and 5 long-term maintenance releases). The latest numbers say that Linux is used by more than 70% of the world's smartphones and by more than 50% of the world's internet web servers.

The main takeaway from the talk will be on how a constantly changing and evolving project scaled it’s software development and solved the complex problems without applying any of those frameworks...

Having more than 20 years of experience in technology and engineering management he has a strong know-how understanding business needs from C-Level execs, Investors and Customers and transforming them into technical stories.

With vast experience leading a broad range of technologies development (embedded, classical applications, middleware, distributed, backend, frontend, cloud, mobile), he loves to flourish, refactor and lead organizations in the adoption of methodologies, agility, product, and innovation.
