Is Slicing the Key to Fast Delivery of Working Software and Shorter Feedback Loops? Let's Find Out!
What is “slicing” in software development? Is it really so effective?
Well, slicing is a simple idea - break a big chunk of work into small, shippable increments. As with many other “simple ideas” (eat healthy, exercise regularly, make work visible etc.), it requires quite a bit of work and discipline but can be really transformative to the way we live and work.
In this interactive talk, Ilija Studen covers some of the key principles behind slicing, with examples from one actual product used by tens of thousands of people:
• Slicing as a primary delivery strategy
• Making work human-sized
• Optionality and pathfinding, even when we start with “fixed scope”
• Getting customers excited
• Small batches and one-piece flow
Slicing is at home in agile environments, but it can also be used to get people excited about agile software development in non-agile environments. After all, nothing speaks as loudly as working software.
