Boat Movie Night – HEROES ON DECK: WORLD WAR II ON LAKE MICHIGAN

Details

On Friday, Dec 2, we’re going to have another informal movie night, based on the success of past events (see https://goo.gl/HF0Zil ). This special showing, to benefit the National Museum of the Great Lakes, is held in Lakewood, about a 45 minute drive from our meeting place in Cuyahoga Falls.

HEROES ON DECK tells the little-known story of a bold and innovative response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Two Great Lakes passenger steamers were converted into makeshift aircraft carriers, the USS Wolverine and USS Sable. Between 1942 and the end of the war, more than 15,000 aviators were trained aboard these “freshwater flattops.”

DINNER BEFOREHAND IS OPTIONAL – LET ME KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO EAT AT THE RESTAURANT (so I can give the restaurant a head count) at bats_wings@sbcglobal.net.

5:00 - Meet and eat at the Winking Lizard, 14018 Detroit Ave, Lakewood, OH. 44107. They'll set aside some tables under my name, “Brian Logan”. The restaurant recommends that you get there early in case they are busy – they can get busy Fri nights. We’ll order off the menu.

The restaurant is about ½ mile from the Civic Auditorium.

7:00 MOVIE TIME - Lakewood Civic Auditorium, 14100 Franklin Blvd, Lakewood. Movie admission is $7.50 for members of the Museum, $10 non members (free for veterans and active military). You can purchase your tickets in advance at nmgl.eventbrite.com or at the door.
