Serverless Computing/Knative | Web Accessibility

Details

The May meetup will feature two trending and important topics, in addition to the first speaker in our brand-new First-Time Speaker Series.

Topic #1
Serverless Computing in Action with Knative

Speaker: Doug Tidwell, Red Hat

Abstract:
Serverless computing has been around for several years, but the Knative project (knative.dev) has changed the game. As its name implies, Knative is a Kubernetes-native environment that delivers everything you'd expect from a serverless environment and more. In this presentation, you'll see code deployed to Kubernetes, Knative, and Istio simultaneously. While you're breathless with excitement from this demonstration, we'll investigate all of the infrastructure generated for you, only to see Knative scale it to zero as time goes by. Worry not: The service can still be invoked, as Knative reactivates it as needed.

As a bonus, you'll see a Raspberry Pi version of the photo booth, featuring a Lego-attached camera mounted to the back of the RPi touchscreen. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll have the opportunity to go home with a souvenir photo. Hope to see you there!

Topic #2
Web Accessibility

Speaker: Maria Lamardo, Systems Engineer @ Nutanix

Abstract: Want to learn the basics of Web Accessibility? A Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst turned Web Developer gives you a different take on accessibility and why it is important. Web Accessibility is a way to make everyone - regardless of hardware, software, language, location, or ability - have access to the web and internet in whole. Let's discuss how everyone can create accessible web apps.

Food and beverages will be served, along with great swag.

Doors open at 6:00, programming begins at 6:30 pm sharp.
