Spacewalk 2020 + The Pragmatic Programmer & Andy Hunt
Details
This is a very special event, one we've wanted to do for many years. And one we feel is worthy of a special venue - The Carolina Theater in downtown Durham.
We're calling it "Spacewalk".
Segment #1:
The ATO team will step outside the aircraft and actually become part of our own show. We'll announce several new projects we've been working on for a while now, including a new direction for allthingsopen.org, and we'll give attendees a quick and concise guided tour of what 2020 will hold. We feel 2020 will be a special year, and we want as many members of our community as possible to come along for the ride.
Segment #2:
5 minute interviews with three (3) great local organizations:
a. Women Who Code RTP - https://www.meetup.com/Women-Who-Code-Raleigh-Durham/
b. Women in Tech Allies - https://www.meetup.com/Women-in-Tech-Allies/
c. Devs@RTP - https://www.meetup.com/DevsRTP/
Segment #3:
We'll host a very special guest - Andy Hunt (https://toolshed.com/about.html) - and we'll be giving away 50 copies of his classic book The Pragmatic Programmer, 20th anniversary edition - https://pragprog.com/book/tpp20/the-pragmatic-programmer-20th-anniversary-edition . Andy will deliver an informal talk providing background on a book that has perhaps influenced more programmers than any other in the history of technology. He'll also sign books for those that snag one of the free 50, and for those bringing one of their own.
The swag will be the best we've ever made available, including posters and t-shirts, and we're working with sponsors and partners to ensure some really good stuff is on hand. Food and beverages will also be available, as always.
Doors will "open" at 6:00 pm and we'll work hard to wrap up no later than 8:15 / 8:30 pm. We respect the fact it's a work night and that everyone has plenty to do.
Food and beverages will be served, as always, thanks to our sponsors Mattermost (https://mattermost.com/) and Aiven (https://aiven.io).
PARKING
There are multiple decks nearby. Parking is hourly until 7:00pm. The closest garage is located directly across the street below the DCRI building.
