GraphQL | Docker to Kubernetes | First In-Person Meetup of '22! Downtown Raleigh

Details

We're thrilled to host our first in-person meetup of 2022!

The evening will feature two technical talks (an introductory level GraphQL session and from Docker to Kubernetes), networking, and really cool swag giveaways.

Doors open at 6:00 pm (show up earlier if you like) and live programming begins at 6:30. Also, note no food will be served at this particular meetup as people are still a little weird about eating in a public/group setting. So, grab a bite before you arrive or bring a snack. Water will be available.

Talk topic/title:
GraphQL - Now you know.

Talk abstract:
GraphQL has been around for six years, but many of us still don’t know what it is or why we should care. REST remains the gold standard for APIs, but GraphQL has many key advantages and some setbacks.

This talk is geared towards GraphQL beginners looking to understand the history, context, and benefit of GraphQL. Leave with a solid understanding of the language, tooling, and when GraphQL is the best option for your next project.

Speaker #2:
Colin Griffin, Chief Engineer, Krumware LLC

Bio:
Colin Griffin is a software architect with developer and operator experience as primary focuses. He founded Krumware in 2016 with the goal of enabling companies to build better environments for their developers, through technology development.

Talk Title:
Graduating from Docker to Kubernetes

Abstract:
Container-based development is now firmly a staple in development workflows, including new developers. But what's the next step? Developers need to understand how to deploy their applications into production, and kubernetes is the de-facto system for managing containers in production environments. It isn't as daunting as it seems, and in fact, we are moving closer and closer to even using kubernetes directly in our development workflow.

Let's cut through the fog of war and walk through the journey of containers-to-kubernetes (locally!) with the concepts and open-source tools that make it possible.

Three (3) important items.

1. Doors "open" at 5:30 / 6:00 pm and live programming begins at 6:30 pm ET. Feel free to show up early and join us and catch up - we're excited to see you!

2. While the COVID mask mandates at the Raleigh Convention Center and in Wake County have been lifted, we will socially distance seating just to be safe. Also, we can implement additional COVID related measures as needed if the current situation changes.

3. We will be giving away a lot of swag at this meetup, including ATO t-shirts, hats and stickers, as well as sponsor swag (hats, shirts, etc.). Our inventory is running over - you'll directly benefit.
