What we’re about

Come along and join us as we explore the mountain bike trails around the Wellington Region
We are a friendly group of mountain bike enthusiasts, and we put on off-road mountain bike rides from easy to intermediate levels.

When we ride
We ride all year round with our rides being 2.5- 4.5 hours long.
We ride together as a group and stop regularly to catch our breath and have a chat.
Our rides are usually Saturday (or Sunday) mornings at a variety of locations around the Wellington region, generally meeting at 9.20 am (for a 9.30 am start), we also run mid-week evening rides too.

What kind of mountain bike you’ll need
For your safety, and the enjoyment of the ride for other members, we require that you have a well maintained, safe mountain bike, with mountain bike tyres, and that you only join rides that are suitable for your level.

Ride skill levels
Most of the rides we do are Grade 1 or 2 for beginner rides, and Grade 3 & 4 for intermediate rides.
The grades are as follows:

  • Beginner rides
    • Easiest: Grade 1 Standard: Fairly flat, wide, smooth track or gravel road.
    • Easy: Grade 2 Standard: Mostly flat with some gentle climbs on smooth track with easily avoidable obstacles such as rocks and potholes.
  • Intermediate Rides
    • Intermediate: Grade 3 Standard: Steep slopes and/or avoidable obstacles possibly on narrow track and/or with poor traction. There may be exposure at the track’s outside edge.

Note that if the track is wet, it generally adds 1 grade to the ride.

Read the Ride/ Event description carefully to find out more on the ride grade, fitness level and experience required. Please contact the Ride Leader if you have any questions.
Have a look at ride comments and photos from previous rides to get a feel of what we do.
If in doubt sign up for a beginners ride first and then as your experience and fitness improve move up a grade.
If you have any existing heath issues, cycling issues or don’t want your ride photo on the website please talk to us before the ride.
