Ski Orienteering at Laurel Ridge State Park

Details

Orienteering is the sport of finding checkpoint locations using a map and compass.

The first WPOC (Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club) event of 2019 is scheduled for January 13, it is ski orienteering at Laurel Ridge State Park.

There will be two courses:
Short (1.7 km for beginners)
Long (5.2 km for more advanced ski orienteers).

On site registration and starting will go from 10 am to 1 pm. Free cross-country ski lessons at 11 am. Map fee $6 as usual; trail fees and equipment rental extra. Preregistration is now open. By the way, if there is no snow on the 6th, the back-up date for the event is
January 13.

A new preregistration system has been developed for WPOC events. During 2019, you will be encouraged to preregister for an event before coming to it. Preregistration does not involve paying any money; fees will
still be collected only at the event. By preregistering, you will help
us better estimate the number of maps needed; and for most events, you
will be expediting starting on a course. Preregistration is not
required; however, I will be encouraging you to make it a habit. You
can preregister now for any of our regular upcoming Spring events by
going to www.wpoc.org and selecting Preregistration from the
Orienteering Events menu. That same page will explain more about how
preregistration works.
