What we’re about

This Meetup group is for non-native speakers of English who want to improve their speaking skills.

This is about the "music" of English - the rhythm, the pace, the connections, the high and low tones (pitch/Hz) - all of this is called "prosody" and "intonation" is the focus on using pitch and duration.

More than just pronunciation, how you control your voice to go higher in pitch and longer in duration is very important to help native English speakers understand you quickly and easily.

We'll practice any phrases, greetings, and sentences that are useful for your daily life so bring words and expressions you'd like to practice.

I am Dr. Christi Barb (https://www.adastraspeech.com/christibarb.html) - a professional speech coach who specializes in foreign-accented English. I will be there to lead, answer questions, and help you build your English pronunciation skills.

I also host another Meetup called American English Pronunciation Q&A on Tuesdays at 1:00pm (all US Eastern time). https://www.meetup.com/American-English-Pronunciation-Q-A/

How the online Meetup works:

RSVP if you can attend - then you'll receive the Zoom link.

Add words, phrases, sentences that you want to practice - In the description of that day's event, there will be a link to the Google spreadsheet we will use during the meeting. Everyone can use it to type in any words that you'd like to learn how to pronounce (or improve your pronunciation of). All the previous word lists are in this Google Drive Folder.

Review - After each meeting, I will video record myself pronouncing the words we practiced and post it on my YouTube channel, on the playlist for this Meetup group. I will post this link in the comments for that day's event.
