Understanding Reform in Myanmar (Burma) Talk and Q&A

Details
Hello everyone,
I am absolutely delighted to announce that the eminent academic, Professor Marie Lall, will be giving a talk to our group next month. Marie Lall is a leading expert on Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) and has spent many years teaching and researching in the country.
She will be talking about the state of Myanmar’s political system and society in a special event hosted by Hammersmith Amnesty Group. There will be a Q&A session afterwards and she will also be signing copies of her new book;
Understanding Reform in Myanmar: People and Society in the Wake of Military Rule
Everyone is welcome, including non-Amnesty members.
Myanmar (Burma) has experienced major changes in recent years. After 50 years of rule by an oppressive military junta, the National League for Democracy has finally been able to take power. Aung San Suu Kyi, who was previously kept under house arrest and became a symbol of the military regime’s severe human rights abuses, is now effectively head of Myanmar’s government. But how much progress has Myanmar actually made towards liberalisation and social justice? How democratic has it really become?
Tickets are only £3. You can pay on the door or book through the Eventbrite via the following link;
