PhD candidate in Computational Linguistics at VU
Invited Talk #2 Topic: Alternative Facts: Finding Contradicting Information In and Across Texts
Chantal van Son is a PhD candidate in Computational Linguistics and is conducting her research in the Computational Lexicology and Terminology Lab (CLTL) at the VU Amsterdam. Her research focuses on finding contradicting information in and across texts, for instance when one fact is in conflict with another, or when two people express different perspectives towards the same statement. In the age of 'alternative facts', 'fake news' and 'filter bubbles', she hopes to contribute to more complete, transparent and balanced access to information for web users. Her use case is the online vaccination debate, which has been one of the most heated and polarised debate topics for years now, and which impact on public health is evident.
