This Meet-up is for those who enjoy cycling and who would like a casual bike ride as a group. Nothing too complicated or really strenous. The Gold Coast is a fantastic place to ride and lends itself to ride as a social event. I aim to set a ride once every 3-4 weeks. I'm not planning many hills and rides will be at a leisurely pace near the beach and on paths if possible. More suited to novice riders rather than racers. Either in the middle or at the end we will stop for coffee. You will need to have a helmet and a bike lock of some kind will be useful. I have a long chain and some locks for 2-3 bikes if necessary.
There are currently 3 Co-ordinators. Two live south of Burleigh. One of the co-ordinators lives in the north near Labrador.
Lovely Lisa has offered to host this bike ride. Thanks Lisa 🌸🌸😊😊
Park in the carpark in front of the Coffee Club ready for coffee/Breckie at the end.
This will be an urban ride of 20km loop from Mermaid Waters through Varsity and Robina. Most will be on paths, some on boardwalk and a few short suburban streets. We will cycle through Bond Uni campus and around Lake Orr, so expect to see lots of water and waterbirds. We could be sharing the path with walkers, so the speed will moderate in the 12-13km range and we will need to be careful on the narrower paths. Some easy hills and plenty of shade along most of the way. We will start and finish at the coffee club, Q Super Centre and can enjoy breakfast afterwards.
Please ensure your bike is roadworthy - tyres are pumped and you have a spare tube in case of getting a flat tyre.
Bring water and $1 for meetup site fee.
Walk the Federation Track to The Spit from Southport Surf Club and return.
Meet at 8 am.
Take water, a hat and $1 for the site.
This walk is on paths, concrete and sand. There is an option to walk out to the lighthouse for an extra beautiful view once there.
Estimate about 11 km return mostly flat.
