The Anchorage Zen Community for anyone interested in Buddhism, and meditation. All experience levels welcome, from absolute beginners to masters. The Anchorage Zen Community practices within Soto Zen Buddhist tradition, under the guidance of Genmyo Zeedyk, and strives to cultivate the integration of Zen practice with everyday life for personal and social transformation. Online Morning Sitting

Needs a location

Online Morning Sitting with Anchorage Zen Community is offered on Zoom Monday-Thursday 6:30 am-7:30 am. The schedule will be: 6:30-6:55 am sitting 6:55-7:00 am walking 7:00-7:25 am sitting A chance to share thoughts or reflections with the group (optional) will follow. One can join the online meeting room before the first sit, or during the walking time, just as in our in-person zendo. People may sit the first period, second period or both. Online Book Club with the Anchorage Zen Community will be offered 2nd/4th Thursdays 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. We are reading Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind, by Shunryu Suzuki‎. Please bring questions or comments to discuss. The current reading is the sections on Naturalness, Emptiness, Readiness, and Mindfulness. The schedule will be: 9:00-9:25 sitting meditation 9:25-9:30 walking 9:30-9:55 sitting 9:55-10:00 short chanting service 10:00-10:30 dharma talk Here are the chants we use in Sunday Service: Verse of the Kesa: Great robe of liberation Virtuous field far beyond form and emptiness Wearing the Tathagata's teaching We vow to free all beings Purification: All the twisted karma ever created by me since of old; On account of my beginningless greed, hatred, and ignorance; Born of my conduct speech and thought; I now acknowledge openly and fully Great Vows for All The many beings are numberless, I vow to free them; Greed, hatred and ignorance rise endlessly, I vow to abandon them; Dharma gates are countless, I vow to wake to them; Buddha’s way is unsurpassed, I vow to embody it fully.
