Animal Lovers,

DOGS NEED YOUR HELP NOW!  It doesn't matter where you live and it will only take a couple minutes.

Pasco County keeps changing the working in the Anti-tethering ordinance back to wording that is meaningless!  We need EVERYONE to send an email now!!  At the bottom of this email is an email you can copy and paste, or put in your own words.  But please send an email regarding the wording for this ordinance.

Commissioners, in a effort to keep Pasco a safe community for humans and dogs alike, I respectfully ask that you consider the following language in the proposed anti-tethering ordinance:  "The dog is in visual range of the owner, harborer, or keeperAND the owner, harborer, or keeper is outside with the dog".  Counties before us have proven that this is the language proven most successful.

If you want to copy and paste for your email, or you can just send the statement above:

Commissioners,

We have received the new language for the proposed Anti-Tethering / Breeder Licensing Ordinance. We reviewed the anti-tethering portion. Once again there has been a language change. A language change that will not stop the abuse of dogs kept on chains 24/7---and a change that will not protect the public from chained dog attacks. As written, the anti-tethering portion is useless.

The language now reads "The dog is outside and in view of the owner, harborer, or keeper".  The language should read "The owner is outside and in view of the tethered dog".  We are not certain why this sentence keeps getting changed. It is the most important sentence in the ordinance. It is what your constituents have been asking for for over a year now.

If you review the ordinances from the eight other Florida counties that ban unattended dog tethering (Miami/Dade, Palm Beach, Collier, Sarasota, Manatee, Hillsborough, Lake, and Okaloosa)--you will see that the same sentence is included in all of those ordinances. We request that you please consider changing the language back to the original language of: "The owner is outside and in view of the tethered dog".

We are not attacking any other responsible dog owners who tether their dogs outside for fresh air. We are trying to educate the public about the dangers of chaining---dangers to the public and to the dog. There are alternatives for every reason to tether a dog.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
